Beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and servant of the Lord, James David Crute was born to Walter H. and Fannie Hinton Crute in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Gray Street Elementary School, Washington High School, Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. He was a star player on the football teams at Washington High and Clark College, and a veteran of U.S. Army as a medic and x-ray technician. He was a member of Christ Temple Church over 57 years and served as HYPU President, Usher overseer, Jr. Ushers, Sunday School Supt., Sunday School Teacher, member of the Brotherhood Men’s Chorus, and served as the unofficial clock changer and church photographer (both major hobbies of his). For close to 43 years he served as Camp Director and Assist. Camp Director for the Southern District Summer Camp taking many young people to camp to learn about God in the beauty of the amazing surroundings in the mountains of Cleveland National Forest and San Bernardino.

He was an assistant scoutmaster, former president of the Lomita Lion’s Club. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office for 36 years, rising through the ranks to become Postmaster of Harbor City when he retired.

We cherish the outstanding memory of the beloved, who was the devoted husband of Mary E. (Allen), cherished and esteemed father of Czernic (Deceased), Jerolyn (David) Sackman , Melvia (Saeed) Ahmed, and beloved grandfather of Zeba, Sanaa, Azam, Asher, Balam and Eddie, brother to Daniel (Evelyn), Nathaniel (Deceased), Solomon Crute, and Rhoda C. Allen, sister-in- law Dorothy Jean Allen, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, as well as Special Daughter Sharon Steele, Godfather to Roderick Dillon, Antaliah Thomas Bennai, Melissa Berry and Joshua Hart, and special to numerous neighbors and friends.

James David Crute was dedicated to the Lord’s work and always found the time to render service for Him.
